Fall and all her glory...

Ah, fall. Most people seem to have a love-hate relationship with this season, and I'm no exception. I always feel so torn when it arrives. I'm happy for the cooler days, and I find the fall skies so beautiful. But I hate seeing summer leave every time. Summer is like a best friend you only get to visit once a year, and in my opinion, she always arrives late and leaves too early.
Here we are on the second day of fall, and it seems the weather got the memo that the seasons have changed, because the cool air and blustery wind have rushed in all too fast. Even the sky seems different already. The mornings are staying darker, the sunsets seem a bit more vivid, and deep down, in your heart of hearts, you know fall has arrived.

So what has Solomon + Co been up to at the end of summer and into fall? One thing we've really been enjoying is working on our fall candle line. From pouring the candles (which has the house smelling amazing, by the way) to photographing them and writing up the listings, we hope to have these wonderful-smelling candles on our website soon! We've also been experimenting with upgrading our wood wicks, and we hope to offer you a better wood wick this year. It's been a tricky process, and while there are plenty of test candles being burned, I'm not going to complain about always having a candle lit lately.

This part of the season also has us assessing the flower fields. This was our first year with the flower growing project. We chose not to push bouquet sales much, because we really wanted to use this time to learn and plan better for next year. And learn we sure did! I feel we have a much better grasp on the direction of the flower fields and what we need for the years ahead: how we want to grow, and the types of flowers we want to plant. I know that cultivating a flower farm branch of the business takes time and patience, and it's an ever-evolving mindset. Businesses are living things too, and like any living thing, they're always changing, growing, evolving, and becoming what they're meant to be.

We've still been doing plenty of our first and strongest love: designing. There have been some small jobs here and there, and lots of focus on designing more of our own spaces. One space we hope to transform soon is The Main Ave. Venue. The bathrooms have been in desperate need of a redo, and we've been sourcing some really fun and gorgeous materials to give them a much more welcoming feel.
Another space that's been getting a lot of thought and design attention lately is our very own studio. Between cabinetry layouts and wallpaper selections, we've really been enjoying all the design decisions and sourcing.
As for our personal life, our oldest is out in the workforce full time now. She's gaining experience working for another family business in our town. The other two are still homeschooled and are happy to be back in a routine with schoolwork, chores, and going to our co-op to see friends once a week. And we're always working on our own home in our not-so-spare time.
Hoping you find the best of fall and get to enjoy these cooler days....
